Apos ser atingido por fortes ventos em 11 de março de 1967, o Mount Athos que vinha da Grecia em direçao a Rio Grande se chocou com bancos de areia, vindo a encalhar na praia de Mostardas. Todos os 28 tripulantes sobreviveram.
